Puiforcat Art Deco Sterling Silver Syrup Pitcher, Mexico City, 1942-45

This rare pitcher is a stunning example of art deco silver by Jean Puiforcat. The tapered, cylindrical shaped body is decorated with a pair of applied double-rings traveling horizontally on each side of the base of the handle. Another simple inset ring is applied underneath acting as the foot. The flat-hinged cover rises slightly upwards in the front complimenting the opening of the spout. Fitted and pinned into two attached collars is the lovely wood handle.

Jean Puiforcat was the undisputed master of the Art Deco period in French silver.  His stunning geometric designs can be found in many important museum collections.  During the Second World War, he set up shop in Mexico City at Parque Melchor Ocampo 64.  He was deeply influenced by Mexican art and design - as can be seen in the handle of this wonderful pitcher. His work from this period is rarely seen on the market.    

This stunning art deco pitcher is marked underneath with the mark he used in Mexico along with 'JEAN PUIFORCAT/ STERLING.' It measures 5.5 inches high, weighs 12.95 troy ounces (including handle) and is in excellent antique condition retaining its original (refinished) handle and gilt interior.
