Harold Schremmer Sterling with Pearls New York Yacht Club Commodore's Cup Yachting Trophy, Southington, Connecticut, 1965

This very rare and stunning yachting trophy is made of heavy gauge silver and masterfully designed and executed. The body shimmers with subtle, overall hammering to the surface.

The vasiform main body has a lovely shape and is beautifully inscribed on one side:

The removable cover, with it's rising dome, is surmounted with a crowning device with five small pearls perched on the tips of the spires.

The intriguing base is exceptionally designed with bird-like ornaments attached to a ring base with applied ball decoration at the tips. This wonderful modern design is fascinating the way it is constructed and possibly meant to represent birds in flight, waves, or the sails of ships.

The Commodore's Cup is a prestigious award given to the winner of the amateur regatta division.

Harold Schremmer is an accomplished silversmith who trained at the Museum School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and in Germany. In 1965, he had been a self-employed silversmith for six years with his studio in Southington, CT, and had already received awards from various institutions.(1)

This stunning covered trophy is marked underneath 'SCHREMMER/ STERLING'. It measures 10.75 inches tall by 5.75 inches wide, weighs 34.70 troy ounces and is in excellent condition.
