This oval basket has a solid interior from which rows of twisting, intersecting wire rise upwards and attach to the upper rim. It creates a beautiful netting design and is quite lovely. The top rim is bordered with a stunning die-rolled border of water leaves against a lined background and has loop handles hanging down at the ends. The detail is quite striking.

There is a silver shield on each side of the bowl which have never been monogrammed. The oval, pedestal base is ornamented with complimentary classical banding. This lovely centerpiece bowl by William Gale & Son is a beautiful example of mid 19th century silver from New York City.

This wonderful centerpiece is marked underneath with Gale & Son's trademark with the 1862 date along with 'Wm. GALE & SON/ NEW-YORK/ 925 STERLING.' It measures 10.5 inches in diameter by 5.5 inches high, weighs 17.80 troy ounces and is in very good antique condition with slight unevenness to the firescale in the interior.
