This unique vase is a wonderful example of the highly imaginative designs and creative genius produced by the famous firm of Shreve & Co.

The mound-formed base is covered with forest groundcover. Within a circular blank is an applied 'SGA' monogram.

Emanating from the base is the trunk of California's state tree, the Sequoia. This bold design has very impressive detailing with roots bearing into the earth and 3-dimensional irregular bark forming the trunk. The opening at the top has a soft jagged edge.

Shreve & Co. was one of the most important California silversmithing firms, and is still San Francisco's preeminent jeweler. They are known for their unique designs and high quality special-order craftsmanship.

This exquisite vase is marked 'MADE BY SHREVE & CO/ SAN FRANCISCO/ STERLING'. The base measures just shy of 6 inches wide and it stands 12.5 inches tall. The vase weighs 40.45 troy ounces and it is in excellent antique condition.
