This rare serving slice is very impressive. It has great weight, wonderful quality and superb design.

Whether it be holloware or flatware, George Shiebler produced some of the greatest silver of the late 19th century. How apropos to have a fish serving knife with the handle in the shape of a sea creature. The details of the handle are exquisite with a scaly back and curved fin from which foliage extends. The design is executed to both sides of the handle.

Protruding from the open mouth of the creature is the fantastic blade. It is beautifully pierced in a floral design, enhanced with engraved line details, that is reminiscent of classical anthemoin, or honeysuckle, decoration. Stunning engraving decorates the area where the blade and creature join.

"KFW' is also engraved on the front and dated '1885' on the reverse of the soft matte finish blade.

This exceptional server is marked with Shiebler's trademark along with 'STERLING'. It measures 12 inches long, weighs 7.40 troy ounces and is in excellent antique condition.
