This large, wonderful goblet features a full-figure cast depiction of the Greek goddess Athena. Here we see her draped in robes holding a torch, and at her side sits an owl symbolizing her wisdom. This incredible sculptural stem is beautifully detailed and is connected to a circular, domed base chased with leaves and berries. The unadorned cup has a reflective surface and has never been monogrammed.

Provenance: Private Collection.

This rare goblet is marked underneath with Gorham's trademark along with the 1872 "B" date mark, "STERLING," and model number "430." It also is stamped "D & CO" for the Cincinnati, OH maker and retailer Duhme & Company. It measures 9.5 inches tall, weighs 13.70 troy ounces, and is in excellent antique condition.
