Charters, Cann & Dunn Antique Coin Silver Vase, New York City, c. 1850

This very large vase was made by the New York firm of Charters, Cann & Dunn. Using various techniques of repoussé, chasing and casting, this wonderful vase is highly decorated with naturalistic motifs.

Large repoussé grape clusters and leaves chased for detail emerge from a chased grapevine encircling the over sized midsection, pedestal base and neck.

Cast and applied interwoven vines encircle the rim of the foot, while cast and applied grape leaves and grapes hang from the top rim and vines with leaves and grapes hang from the join of the base and body. Dramatic grapevine handles terminate with the same design.

This impressive coin silver vase is marked underneath 'CC&D/ NY' and by the great NY retailer 'BALL, BLACK & CO'. It measures 17.25 inches high by 10 inches across the handles, weighs 70.45 troy ounces and is in very good antique condition, although there has been a monogram removed from the reserve on each side of the body.
