Arthur Stone Sterling Silver Perpetual Calendar, Gardner, MA, 1914-16

We have never seen such an unusual item from the Stone shop. Bordering the lovely frame is a wonderful incised line decoration. A complete set of original month and date cards is included. A previous owner actually had a different set of calligraphy cards created in order to preserve the originals. The back has an attached easel stand.

This wonderful sterling silver desk calendar is marked underneath with Stone's impressed hammer mark along with 'STERLING/ P'. This trademark was used from 1910-37. The 'P' denotes work by Walter W. Pfeiffer who achieved 'Craftsman' status from the Society of Arts & Crafts, Boston. He worked at the Stone shop from 1914-16 (see Arthur J. Stone 1847-1938 Designer and Silversmith by Elenita Chickering, pp 180-181).

The calendar frame measures 4 inches wide by 3.75 inches high, weighs 2.80 troy ounces and is in excellent condition. The original paper inserts have fading to the surface and the ink date 1959/ 1964 was written next to the month June. The picture above shows a good representation of the set which is in very nice condition.
