Wood & Hughes Chased Antique Sterling Silver Napkin Ring, New York City, 1879

This elaborately chased napkin ring is a stunning example from Wood & Hughes. Of very high quality, the circular body is capped on the top and bottom with applied bands of repeating anthemion. Framing the decorative banding is a plain band at exterior and fine beading to the interior.

A plain shield blank is engraved Chauncey W. Norton/ Christmas 1879. Its surrounding background is an exceptionally chased display of dense flowers and leaves. The oxidized background makes the flowers sparkle.

This uncommon napkin ring is marked on the interior 'W&H/ STERLING. It measures 1.75 inches in diameter by 1.75 inches long, weighs 1.70 troy ounces and is in excellent antique condition retaining the original gilding to the banding and interior.
