Whiting Antique Sterling Silver and Mixed Metal Aesthetic Movement Vase, New York, c. 1882

A whimsical example of American aesthetic movement silver, this Whiting vase features bold decoration of floral and foliate details.

The trompe l'oeil background is chased to resemble a brick wall as if the flowers are growing next to it.

Around the sloping base, smaller exotic grasses and plants grow from the ground. One larger rock is applied to this base. Once again, all of this appears to be growing in front of the wall. The flowers, leaves and ground are all realistically rendered in three dimensions.

This beautiful vase is marked underneath with Whiting's trademark, 'Sterling,' and the model number: '807/ A'. It measures just over 7 inches tall by 3.75 inches in diameter, weighs 13.90 troy ounces and is in excellent antique condition.
