Tiffany & Co Pair of Antique Sterling Silver Tureens, New York City, 1870-75

It is very uncommon to find a nice pair of tureens. This smaller size can be used for numerous purposes from side dishes to sauces. The oval form bodies are attached to stepped pedestal bases. Bold, cast handles on the sides terminate in classical anthemion decoration. Bands of intersecting circles with florets adorn the edges of the bodies and bases. They also decorate the removable covers around their midsections. The tureens are beautifully engraved on one side with the initials 'TD' and the other with the family name 'Davies'. The domed covers are surmounted with stunning cast artichokes and ribbon.

These stunning tureens are marked underneath 'TIFFANY & CO/ QUALITY 925-1000/ 2857-7309/ UNION SQUARE' and with the Moore 'M' mark. They measure 9.75 inches across the handles by just over 5 inches wide by 7.5 inches high, weigh a combined 45.45 troy ounces and are in excellent antique condition.
