Tiffany and Co. Aesthetic Movement Antique Sterling Silver Flask, NYC, c. 1880

An outstanding example of Tiffany's early Japanese style designs of the aesthetic movement, this flask features dramatic acid-etched scenes of grapevines. The hammered background has a matte finish and the grapes and leaves are beautifully gilded and engraved with fine details.  The removable cap has a hammered top and fitted with a cork to prevent leaks. Another interesting element is the detachable cup which separates at the midpoint from the sterling body.

Wonderful designs and expert engraving, along with the contrast between the gilt surfaces and the patinated engraved details, create a striking visual impact.

This lovely flask is marked ''TIFFANY & Co/ M/ 2811/5406/ STERLING-SILVER 1637'. It measures 5.5 inches high by 3.5 inches wide and weighs 7.35 troy ounces. It is in excellent antique condition and has never been monogrammed.
