Shiebler 'Homeric' (Medallion) Sterling and 14k Gold Sauce Ladle, NYC, NY, c. 1880s

Notify me when similar is available:

This stunning and rare sauce ladle is in the 'Homeric' line of flatware by George Shiebler from New York. The curved handle is magnificent, with a classical portrait 14k gold medallion identified as Diana holding a bow. (1) An irregular-shaped handle with deeply incised lines and hammered surface adds to its uniqueness and beauty. The oval bowl with soft gilding has an unidentified portrait medallion.

This exceptional ladle is marked with Shiebler's trademark 'S' with wings and 'STERLING & 14k' and by the Chicago retailer' C.D. PEACOCK.' It measures just under 6 inches long, weighs 2 troy ounces, and is in excellent antique condition with light wear to the gilding in the bowl.
