Bigelow, Brothers and Kennard Antique Coin Silver Butter Dish, Boston, c. 1860

This beautiful covered butter dish is a lovely design and excellent example of Boston coin silver. The bowl is hand-raised and has an applied, spreading foot and platform edge around the top with applied bands of silver to its outer edge. An original liner is pierced with a series of circles to form a flower. The domed cover is hand-engraved with classical elements and flowers. Attached at the top is a twisting flame finial.

This wonderful covered dish is marked underneath "BIGELOW, BRO's & KENNARD/ Pure Silver Coin/ BOSTON. It measures just over 6 inches in diameter by 5 inches tall, weighs 12.90 troy ounces and is in excellent antique condition.
