Bachruch Antal Hungarian 900 Silver Art-Deco 7-piece Coffee Service with Tray, Pest c. 1920's

This is a very attractive coffee and tea service with its original tray. It consists of a coffee pot, tea pot, covered sugar, creamer, waste bowl with under tray, tea strainer with stand, hot milk or juice jug and tray.

The bodies of the pieces are uniquely designed with wonderful oval forms decorated with stunning overall hammered surfaces. The shapes and style are very art deco, relying on strong forms with lovely proportions and lines. The handles and spouts are reminiscent of the bold designs one associates with Josef Hoffmann or Oscar Haerdtl and the secessionist movement in Vienna during to 1920's.

The large, oval tray has a shiny interior which contrasts wonderfully with the raised, hammered edge. A nicely engraved 'DJ' monogram in an art deco-style is engraved on one side of the pieces and the edge of the tray.

This stunning service is marked underneath 'BACHRUCH A. SUCC.' and with the Austrian-Hungarian silver mark with Diana's head denoting 900 silver and a 'P' for Pest. The lovely ivory-handled tea strainer with stand was made in Linz, Austria, bears an unidentified 'KV' maker's mark and the 800 silver standard mark. The coffee pot measures 8 inches high and the tray measure 22.5 inches long by 18 inches deep. The total weight of the service is 164.20 troy ounces. It is in very good/ excellent antique condition retaining the original gilding to the interior of the creamer, waste bowl, covered sugar and jug.
