Arthur Stone Associates Arts & Crafts Sterling Silver Syrup Jug, Gardner, MA, c. 1940

Notify me when similar is available:

This lovely, small item is formed as a covered jug and could be used for syrup, cream, etc. As with all Stone silver, it is executed with graceful lines and beautiful proportions. The hinged, dome cover has the original ivory finial, and the hand-raised body has the clean, soft hand-hammered surface one expects from Stone silver.

In 1937, Arthur Stone retired and sold his seminal shop to Henry Heywood who renamed it Stone Associates.  Heywood retained many of Stone's best silversmiths, including Arthur Hartwell, who made this jug.

This beautiful jug is marked underneath with the Stone Associates mark and 'STERLING/ H.' The 'H' denotes work by Arthur Hartwell who achieved Master Craftsman status within the Society of Arts & Crafts, Boston. The pitcher measures 4.5 inches across the handle and spout by 5 inches tall weighs 7.80 troy ounces, has never been monogrammed and is in excellent antique condition.
