An early and scarce pattern by Gorham, 'Lady' features a wonderfully detailed casting of a woman's hand with a ring holding the bowl of this server. Made from multiple parts, decorative bands attach the hand section to the stem of the handle and also the upper part, which consists of a circular disc engraved with bright-cut and the initial 'S. Above the disc is an applied ribbon. The shaped, elongated bowl is gilt on the front.

Provenance: Private Collection.

This very rare sterling server is marked with Gorham's trademark and 'PAT. APPL. FOR.'STERLING'. It measures 9.75 inches long, weighs 3.30 troy ounces and is in excellent antique condition.
