S.C. Young & Co Pr of English Sterling Candlesticks, 1803/04 with Antique Sheffield Plate Branches
This set consists of a pair of sterling silver candlesticks and a pair of 2-arm antique Sheffield silverplate branches.
The stepped, circular bases are decorated with gadrooning around the top edge and lobing on the domed center. These two decorative elements are used consistently throughout with gadrooning on the bases and shoulders of the column, the edges of the waxpans and bobeche and lobing on the columns and sconces.
It is probable the antique Sheffield plate branches are original to the set as the decoration is identical. Plated arms are both stronger and more economical than sterling branches and it is not uncommon to see this combination.
These lovely candlesticks are fully hallmarked around the base. They measure 12.25 inches high, are loaded and have felt bases. They are in wonderful antique condition.
The branches are in very good condition. One socle turns but does not come out. The candelabra measure 18.5 inches high by 17.5 inches wide.
