This Gorham tray is a stunning work of art. The flat interior has raised sides and shaped corner edges. The copper tray is a wonderful reddish-brown color.

Applied on the left-hand side and swooping upwards is a large, sterling plant  with dramatic leaves, some overlapping. An exotic bird in flight is applied near the upper right corner.

Inset on the tray is an exceptional, thick sterling band with scenes of adult and baby swans (cygnets) swimming amongst exotic foliage with trees , foliage and gazebos in the background. This magnificent inset band is as thick as the copper and is visible on both sides.

This rare mixed metal tray is marked with Gorham's 'anchor' designation for copper wares along with 'GORHAM CO/ D84' and the 1882 'O' year mark. It measures just under 10 inches square and is in excellent condition. The tray has been expertly repatinated to bring back its lustrous color.
