Tiffany & Co Antique Sterling Silver Dessert Creamer and Sugar, New York City, 1883-91

Notify me when similar is available:

This rare creamer and sugar were used during dessert for serving cream and/ or sugar on desserts. They were sometimes accompanied with a sugar sifter and used on fruits or cakes.

Applied to the bases are four small pad feet. They are undecorated as are the applied bands around the tops. The bodies are exceptionally chased with elaborate strawberry vines with robust leaves and blossoming fruit. Leaves, flowers and fruit overlap the rim with a trompe l'oeil effect. The background is textured to give the decoration additional depth.

Applied loop handles are beautifully designed with complimentary motifs terminating with strawberries.

Engraved underneath is a lovely 'J&LW' monogram.

This lovely set is marked underneath 'TIFFANY & CO/ 7732/ M/ 9504/ STERLING-SILVER/ 2 GILL'. The pattern number 7732 dates to 1883 based on the information in Tiffany Silver by Carpenter and the 'M' mark was used until 1891. The sugar bowl measures 5.5 inches wide across the handles by 2.75 to the top of the handles. They weigh a combined 11.30 troy ounces and are in excellent antique condition.
