Gorham Antique Coin Silver Celery Vase, Providence, RI, c. 1860

Notify me when similar is available:

This form of vase is very uncommon and could be used for various floral or food arrangements. One mostly sees celery vases executed in glass. Celery was popular at the time, often a late harvest vegetable considered a healthy addition to winter's limited diet. This rare vase has a lovely engine-turned decorated surface which gives it a nice luster.

Engraved shields with classical and floral designs are centered on the front and back; one of which is engraved with a 'CW' monogram.

The handles are beautiful castings with foliate and scroll accents. Small ram's heads decorate the thumb pieces.

This lovely vase is marked underneath with Gorham's trademark and 'COIN/ 20/ 1'. It measures 6.5 inches across the handles by 5.75 inches high to the tops of the handles, weighs 11.80 troy ounces and is in very good antique condition.
