Tiffany & Co./ Moore Rare Antique Sterling Silver Bird Serving Spoon, New York City, NY, early 1850s

This is the earliest example of Tiffany/ Moore flatware we've had the pleasure of offering, and it is stunning. Two branches, complete with textured bark, tendrils, and knots, create the handle. At its midpoint is a gilt ribbon. Naturalistic appliques of leaves and clusters of blackberries embellish the handle. A wishbone terminal at the top is the perch for a lovely bird with spread wings. The details of all the decorations are magnificent. So as not to take away from the handles' beauty, the shaped bowl is unadorned except for a light gold wash.

This rare serving spoon is marked 'TIFFANY & Co/ STERLING' along with the early 'm' mark for Moore and the early '38' design number. It measures 9.5 inches long, weighs 4.30 troy ounces, and is in excellent antique condition.
