Knowles Rose Pattern Antique Sterling Silver Cake Saw, Providence, c. 1890

Notify me when similar is available:

Featuring a lovely rose vine in bloom with a playful beetle at the base of the handle, this stunning cake saw is in the uncommon and exotic pattern by Knowles known as 'Rose.' The blade, with a matte background, is wonderfully decorated with bright-cut engraving of floral garlands festooned along the blade. Above, the serrated saw is also enhanced by the bright-cut work.

In a delightful detail, because the beetle is in the transitional area between handle and blade, it is partly die-stamped on the handle and partly hand engraved into the blade.

The reverse side, which is only decorated with bright cut engraving in a small area between the handle and blade, is monogrammed "F" in an Old English style.

This fun server measures just over 10.25 inches long and weighs 3.1 troy ounces. It is marked with the Knowles trademark and "STERLING." It is in very good antique condition with light scratching from use.
