Gorham ‘Medallion Pattern Sterling Silver Buckwheat Pancake Server, Providence, RI, c. 1870

Notify me when similar is available:

‘Medallion‘ is a lovely pattern which features classical profile portraits against a stippled background. The shaped, circular, flat blade is beautifully engraved around its edge and displays a floral scene to its center. The reverse is engraved with its original 'EKT' monogram.

It is very uncommon to find serving pieces in their original, fitted boxes, but when you do, it accounts for the contents being well cared for. This box is lined with blue satin and stamped 'J.E. CALDWELL & Co/ SilverSmiths/ PHILADELPHIA.'

Provenance: Private collection.

This wonderful sterling server is marked on the back with Gorham's trademark‘(not well struck) and 'STERLING/ PAT. 1864' and by the great Philadelphia retailer 'J.E. CALDWELL & Co.' It measures 7.5 inches long, weighs 2.0 troy ounces and is in excellent antique condition.
