French Antique Silver 1st Standard (.950) Sugar Sifter, Paris, 1819-38

This is a stunning and early French sugar sifter. The back of the handle is undecorated while the front exhibits wonderful French classicism in its opulent urn and floral design.

The bowl is also quite striking with its fluted shape and delicate foliate piercings.

This rare sugar sifter is hallmarked on the front and back, although we have been unable to identify the maker, it does bear Paris standard marks used between 1819 and 1838. It is made from a higher grade of silver; 950/1000 as opposed to the 925/1000 sterling standard. It measures 8.25 inches long, weighs 2.15 troy ounces and is in excellent antique condition.
