Gorham Pair of Antique Sterling Mounted Hawkes Glass Decanters or Claret Jugs, Providence, 1901

Notify me when similar is available:

It is very uncommon to find a pair of decanters as beautiful as these. The clear glass bodies sparkle with their deep rock crystal style cuttings of floral and foliage designs. The slender necks are mounted with Gorham sterling tops with complimentary decoration. And they look great serving wine.

The covers have a beautiful chain secured to the body within a glass loop. When you pick up the decanter by the neck and chain, the cover opens enabling one to pour using one hand. The spring action within the lid keeps it tight when the chain is released.

According to the records at the Gorham Archives, John Hay Library at Brown University, the glass was made by T. G. Hawkes of Corning, New York and each had a net cost of $28.50.

These rare decanters are marked with Gorham's trademark along with 'STERLING/ D766' and the 1901 date mark. They measure 6.5 inches wide by 8 inches high and are in excellent antique condition. They are priced for the pair.
