Stavre Gregor Panis Arts & Crafts Sterling Silver Candlestick or Vase, c. 1950s
This is either a candlestick or a bud vase. It is larger than the other candlesticks we've had by Panis and works for either function. A floriform base is beautifully pierced with flowers and leaves and engraved for details. A conical stem rises from the base and flares outwards with six petals.
This item comes from the collection of a marine biologist and his wife who summered on the Cape while he worked at The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute. Most of the collection was purchased in the 1950s. They have descended in the family.
This wonderful candlestick or bud vase is stamped 'SGP' within a triangle and 'STERLING.' It measures 4 inches in diameter by 5.5 inches high, weighs 4.30 troy ounces and is in excellent antique condition.
