This magnificent serving dish is exceptionally rare. It consists of a stand, fitted burner, dish for water, dish for food, and cover. All of the pieces are oval and wonderfully executed. The cover has elaborate foliage decoration and a twisted branch handle. The shoulder of the cover is engraved with flowers, leaves, and scrolls. Both of the dishes have a gadrooned edge. One dish is a bit smaller and fits into the larger dish. You can use both together, putting water in the larger dish to heat the contents in the fitted dish, or you can just use the large dish and have the smaller one used as an extra serving dish. Four scrolling feet incorporate textured foliate tops and pad feet. They also support the warming unit with three wick options to control how much heat you choose to use.

The bowls are stamped 'Wm. GALE & SON/ NEW YORK' along with his trademark, including the date of 1855. It measures 12 inches long by 9.25 inches wide by 9 inches to the top of the handle, weighs 98.20 troy ounces, and is in excellent antique condition (one small ding to the burner). The server is coin silver with a piece being stamped later 'Sterling.'
