Shiebler Antique Sterling and 14k Gold Medallion Bonbon Dish, NY, c. 1880s

Some of the most imaginative wares produced by Shiebler were produced in their Medallion or Homeric line of holloware. This oddly shaped sweetmeat serving dish has an irregularly shaped bowl attached to a curved handle terminating with a hairy paw foot. Two smaller, figural feet near the front elevate the bowl. The bowl features a 14k gold gilt roman bust profile centered within an aesthetic star with clouds design. The handle has a hammered background  with chased lines and two inlaid gold gilt medallions.

This rare antique dish is marked with Shiebler's winged 'S' trademark and 'STERLING & 14K/ 174x.' It measures 10 inches long by 4 inches high, weighs 9.50 troy ounces and is in very good antique condition.
