Gorham Antique Sterling Silver Japonesque Dessert Creamer and Sugar, Providence, RI, 1873

Incorporating wonderful japanesque designs, this beautiful creamer and sugar feature exotic handles of curved branches terminating with leaves attached to the bodies. Lovely splayed bases have applied banding of birds and urns with flowers, etc. Applied to the upper rims are borders with the repeating symbol of longevity.

Dessert sets were produced and used for serving cream and sugar on fruit and dessert courses.

This wonderful creamer and sugar are marked underneath with Gorham's trademark and 'STERLING/ 1295' along with the 1873 'F' date code. The sugar measures 6.5 inches across the handles by 3.5 inches high. They have a combined weight of 14 troy ounces, have never been monogrammed, and are in very good antique condition with only light traces of the gilding to the sugar interior.
