This lovely server has a blade that sits flat on the surface and has a raised handle. The front of the handle is engraved around a blank area engraved with a gothic 'F' monogram. The shaped blade has a renaissance inspired strap-work design against a textured background. Amongst the strapwork is a twisting, scaly sea creature which resembles renaissance images of dolphins.

Farrington & Hunnewell were important makers of flatware in Boston working from the 1840s through the early 1870s. This piece was retailed by Bigelow Brothers and Kennard, fine Boston jewelers, who were Shreve, Crump, and Lows principal competition until they went out of business in the early 1970s.

This lovely server is marked 'BIGELOW BROTHERS & KENNARD' and 925 in an oval. It measures 11.75 inches long, weighs 4 troy ounces and in very good antique condition.
