Tiffany and Co. 'Special Hand Work' Sterling Centerpiece/ Punch Bowl, NYC, NY, c. 1920
Stunning hammering covers this spectacular, large centerpiece/ punch bowl by Tiffany & Co. The fluid, shimmering of the surface is an impressive, reflective display of its surroundings. To compete with the arts & crafts silver movement, which gained popularity in the early 20th century, Tiffany & Co produced a beautiful line of hand-raised silver called 'Special Hand Work.' Pieces are quite rare and usually of exceptional weight and quality. The shaped bowl is made to resemble an enormous blossomed flower. The definition of the bowl panels is exquisite. The ten-section design is also executed on the bold base decorated only with a recessed 'G' initial filled with black enamel.
This rare bowl is marked underneath 'TIFFANY & C0/ 19815 MAKERS 1274/ STERLING SILVER/ 925-1000/ m.' It measures 14 inches wide by just under 9.75 inches tall, weighs 64.20 troy ounces, and is in excellent antique condition.
