Marie Zimmermann (attr) Sterling Silver Arts and Crafts Naturalistic Leaf Dish, early/mid 20th century

Notify me when similar is available:

This wonderful handmade dish is in the form of large leaves with raised, irregular edges, deeply incised lines, and beautiful hammered surfaces.  A stem-form loop handle is attached at the base of the leaf.

Marie Zimmermann was a leading New York City arts & crafts metalworker who worked primarily in copper, brass, and iron.  Her silver is quite rare.  These dishes date to her studio years in the early/mid-twentieth century.  Although they do not bear her maker’s mark, this attribution is positive.  In 2005, we had the pleasure to sell three of these dishes with provenance stating that upon her death in 1972, they were left by her to her friend, caretaker and household manager Ida Egly, who sold them in 2005. Only six of these dishes are known and this is the fourth we have had the privilege to sell.

This lovely sterling silver dish is stamped ‘STERLING’ underneath.  It measures 7.5 inches long by 5.5 wide, weighs a hefty 7.40 troy ounces and is in excellent condition.
