Gorham 'Saxon Stag' Coin Silver Ice Cream Slice, Providence, RI, c. 1855-67

This is an ice cream slice in the rare 'Saxon Stag' pattern. The shaped handle has a beautifully cast and applied bust of a stag. The gilded shaped oval blade is pointed with one raised side. The reverse of the handle is hand-engraved with a lovely artistic monogram of an intertwined 'W & M'. 

This rare antique server is marked with Gorham's trademark and by the San Francisco retailer 'GEO. SHREVE & CO'. It measures 9.25 inches long, weighs 3.50 troy ounces and is in excellent antique condition with light wear to the blade surface from use.
