Gorham Antique Sterling Silver Art Nouveau Vase, Providence, RI, 1905

Notify me when similar is available:

This magnificent, tall vase is beautifully executed with just the right amount of decoration. The chased design is accentuated against the reflective, plain background. The edge of the base and top rim have applied bands ornamented with three applied leaf elements.

Rising from the base above these elements are beautifully hand-chased leaves sprouting flowing leaves and stems terminating in wonderful flowers. Great examples of American sterling art nouveau are quite rare and this design is so apropos on this vase. This bold design is in an Athenic-like style, one of Gorham's famous art nouveau lines.

Provenance: Private Collection, CT

This stunning vase is marked underneath with Gorham's trademark and 'STERLING/ A3873/ ' along with the 1905 date mark and by the famous retailer 'SPAULDING & Co CHICAGO.' It measures 14.25 inches tall, weighs 28.90 troy ounces, has never been monogrammed, and is in excellent antique condition.
