Gorham 'Saxon Stag' Coin Silver Ice Serving Spoon, Providence, RI, c. 1855-67

This is an exceptionally rare ice server in the rare 'Saxon Stag' pattern. The shaped handle has a beautifully cast and applied bust of a stag. The oval bowl is engraved around its edge and is pierced with wonderful aesthetic movement designs. The reverse of the handle is hand-engraved with a lovely artistic monogram of an intertwined 'W & M'.

This rare antique ice spoon is marked with Gorham's trademark and by the San Francisco retailer 'GEO. SHREVE & CO'. It measures 8.25 inches long, weighs 2.90 troy ounces and is in excellent antique condition.
