Tiffany & Co Antique Sterling Silver 'Strawberry' Pattern Berry Set, NYC, c. 1900

This is a stunning set for serving and eating berries, fruits or small appetizers. This particular design is very uncommon and it is wonderful to find a complete set.

With three large strawberries on the top, the Tiffany server makes an extremely elegant statement. These strawberries attach to the gilt bowl with a pierced handle of fluid strawberry vines and leaves. The unique shape of the the bowl is referred to as kidney-shaped.

The 12 forks are lovely. They feature one large strawberry with leaves at the top, a twisted handle and two tines.

It is fun to see this presented in an English box with Tiffany & Co.'s London address stamped inside.  The blue satin on the base is more lushly applied than typical American boxes and forks rest in individually fitted spaces rather than the more typical clips at the handle seen in American boxes.

The server measures 9.5 inches long and is marked 'TIFFANY & CO' and 'STERLING'. The forks measure just under 4.5 inches long and are marked ''T. & CO./ STG.'. All pieces are stamped with English hallmarks with a 1901/02 date mark, the 'F' stamp for sterling items imported into England and 'A.W.F' maker's or sponsor's mark.  A.W.F. represents A W Feaveryear the manager of Tiffany's London shop at the time. (See John Culme, Directory of Gold & Silversmiths Jewellers & Allied Traders 1838-1914, Vol. 2 , 'Tiffany & Co.', p. 450.) The set weighs a total 10.50 troy ounces and is in excellent antique condition.  The box is in good antique condition with typical wear to the outside and the button to the closure is missing.
