Whiting Antique Sterling Silver Figural Bird Dish, New York City, c. 1870s

Notify me when similar is available:

This is an exceptional dish in an equally exceptional design. The oval stepped pedestal base has a smooth matte finish and is engraved with a small intertwined 'CSI' monogram. The bowl is formed as a large bird's wing and is stunning. It is beautifully detailed and has a light gold wash on the surface. On one end is a cast and applied bird perched amongst a bed of feathers flowing into the bowl.

We've only seen this model one other time, which we sold in 2014.

Provenance: Private Collection.

This bowl is very sculptural and a lovely work of art. It is marked underneath with Whiting's trademark and 'STERLING/ 360.' It measures 11 inches long by 3 inches high, weighs 11.25 troy ounces, and is in excellent antique condition.
