Tiffany & Co Antique Sterling Silver 'Walrus' Punch Bowl, New York City, c. 1875

This is an exceptional and rare punch bowl by Tiffany & Co. The plain surface of the large bowl is ornamented at the top with beautiful die rolled band of scrolling foliage. Cast figural handles of exceptional quality are applied. The incredible details depict walrus heads with long tusks. Tiffany is known for their quality castings and these handles do not disappoint. We have never seen these particular figures before and they are so dramatic against the plain bowl decorated only with the beautiful border.The stepped pedestal base is decorated with wonderful foliage decoration matching the top rim and a line of beading. 

A decorative band is applied at the midsection of the flared neck. The interior of the bowl is beautifully gilded.

This magnificent bowl is marked underneath 'TIFFANY & CO/ 3406 MAKERS 1322/ STERLING SILVER/ 925-1000/ M/ 5 QTS'. It measures 14.5 inches long across the handles by 8.75 inches high, weighs 63.55 troy ounces, has never been engraved and is in excellent condition.
