Redlich & Co Antique Sterling Silver Double Grape Dish, NYC, c. 1900

This rare server is executed in a naturalistic design and is quite stunning. Two large, overlapping grape leaves are formed to create the bowls. The leaves have dramatic textured surfaces with detailed veins and jagged edge.

It is supported underneath with four large ball feet.

The tall handle is a twisting grapevine decorated with leaves and a hanging cluster of grapes at the top. Two shoots spread outwards from which one would hang their grape shears. 

Adolph Ludwig and A. Alec Redlich started the company Ludwig Redlich in 1890. Ludwig previously worked as a designer for the famous firm of Shiebler who were noted for their unique designs and stunning silver. Five years later, Ludwig sold his interest in the company which then became Redlich & Co.(1) This is likely a Ludwig design.

This spectacular serving dish is marked underneath with Redlich's trademark along with 'STERLING/ 9108' and by the Philadelphia retailer 'J.E. CALDWELL & CO'. It measures just shy of 14 inches long by 8.75 inches wide by 12.5 inches high, weighs 26.95 troy ounces, has never been monogrammed and is in excellent antique condition.
