Each side of this bowl is a work of art. One side displays a spreading vine with leaves and berries emanating from the base. It features incredibly skilled intaglio chasing to achieve stunning deep detail.

The other side features spreading lily pads, also sprouting from a single stem from the base. This naturalistic chased decoration and use of two stunning scenes create a lovely example of aesthetic movement silver.

The surface of this undulating bowl is achieved with irregular hammer blows which create the honeycomb design. It is then textured with a copper brush to give it a soft, shimmering finish.

The underside is beautifully engraved with "Nellie/ FROM/ Lily AND Frank/April 7th 1885."

Provenance: Private Collection.

This exquisite and rare bowl is marked underneath with Dominick & Haff's trademark, "STERLING/ 324", and by the NYC retailer "THEODORE B. STARR." It measures 10.25 inches across the handles by 3.25 inches tall, weighs 28.70 troy ounces, and is in excellent antique condition.
