Patented in 1898, 'Baronial' is designed with small acanthus leaf edges on the handle. The top of the handle features a lion mask appearing to bite into the cartouche monogrammed 'RMSW', for Ralph Montague Stuart Wortley. Terrapin forks are quite rare and distinguished by their uniquely shaped bowls with tiny tines.

These beautiful forks are marked with Gorham's trademark and 'PAT. 1898/ STERLING'. They measures 4.75 inches long, weigh a combined 3.95 troy ounces and are in very good condition with very slight wear to the gilding on the back of the bowls where they rest on a table.

Provenance: Ralph Montague Stuart Wortley was the 4th son of the 2nd Earl of Wharncliffe. In 1891, he married Virginia Marie Schley, daughter of naval hero Rear Admiral Winfield Scott Schley and these have descended in the family.
