This impressive ewer by William Gale & Son is a beautiful example of mid-19th century silver from New York City. The top rim, the bases of the neck and body along with the base of the stepped foot are bordered with a stunning border of rope. A distinctive handle with wonderful details also depicts a twisted spiral rope with a foliage thumb-piece. The detail is quite striking. The body is wonderfully engraved on both sides with classic foliage engraving around a shield. One shield is engraved 'C.F.P.' and the other 'from 'R.L.F.'

This magnificent ewer is marked underneath with William Gale & Son's trademark with the 1856 date along with 'Wm. GALE & SON/ NEW-YORK'. It measures 13.25 inches high, weighs 35.75 troy ounces and is in excellent antique condition.
