A lovely, applied Greek-key design band strengthens and decorates the rim of this cute sterling basket. This banding is also used to create the swing handle. The conforming, oval pedestal base also uses the banding as the rim of the foot. The interior of the bowl is engraved 'C.A.C.'

This small basket is marked underneath with Gale & Son's trademark with the 1862 date along with 'Wm. GALE & SON/ 447 BROOME ST/ NEW-YORK/ 925 STERLING.'

It measures 7.75 inches long by 6 inches wide by 2.75 inches high. (6.5 inches to the top of the handle when raised.) It weighs 6.80 troy ounces and is in very good antique condition with light unevenness to the fire scale in the center.
