Tiffany and Company Sterling and Other Metals Mokume Tea Caddy, NYC, NY, c. 1880

All four sides of this magnificent tea caddy are executed in mokume - one of Tiffany's outstanding mixed-metals silversmithing achievements. These undulating sides are bordered with applied solid gold wire. The bulbous feet are chased with aesthetic foliage, as is the flat platform of the top. A removable cover is also enveloped with mokume with a silver border. A fitted interior cap is mounted with a knob finial surrounded by chased foliage. The underside is engraved with an 'FJM' monogram.

This rare tea caddy is marked underneath 'TIFFANY & Co/ 6026 MAKERS 2105/ STERLING-SILVER/ -AND-/ OTHER-METALS/ 239/ M.' It measures 3.5 square by 5 inches tall, weighs 13.60 troy ounces, and is in excellent antique condition.
