Frederick Marquand Antique Coin Silver Platter Spoon, Savannah, Georgia/ NYC, c. 1820's

This very rare serving spoon is an early variation of the popular Kings pattern. It features a robust shell with foliate accents at the top of the gracefully curved handle . Another shell decorates the reverse of the oval bowl.Detail of Frederick Marquand Antique Coin Silver Platter Spoon, Savannah, Georgia/ NYC, c. 1820's

This early American silver serving/ stuffing spoon is marked 'FM' on the back along with pseudo-hallmarks. In "Savannah Silver and Silversmiths" in the March 1967 edition of Antiques Magazine, James A. Williams asserts that the 'C' is Marquand's date mark for 1821.

It measures just shy of 12.25 inches long, weighs 4.20 troy ounces and is in excellent antique condition with very slight wear to the left side of the bowl.
