Extremely fine and important Art Nouveau Centerpiece Bowl/Floral Arranger, Shreve, Crump and Low, Boston, c. 1900, From the Ames Family of North Easton, MA.
This stunningly beautiful centerpiece bowl is pierced and engraved with floral and foliate motifs which include butterflies. Of circular form with an everted pierced engraved rim, pierced engraved insert for floral arranging supported by three cast feet with chrysanthemum decoration, this is the best example of this object we have ever had. The flowing naturalistic art nouveau design of the rim includes many flowers like irises, poppies, morning glories, peonies and cattails along with butterflies on a swirling pierced foliate background. The central insert is pierced to form a trellis-like grid with flowers and butterflies engraved on it. This centerpiece measures about 14.5 inches in diameter and weighs just under 50 troy ounces. It is in outstanding condition.
