In a bold design of tapering octagonal paneling, this cream jug is a fine example of Boston silver from the 1840's. Rich was Boston's leading silversmith of this period and this piece features fine scrolling foliate and floral flat-chased designs on each panel, spout and handle. Both the handle and spout are paneled in keeping with the design.
This cream jug is marked underneath ' O. Rich'. It measures 4.1 inches high, weighs 9.35 troy ounces and is inscribed 'M. S. Perry' in a cursive style on the top of the handle. It is in very good antique condition, except for a small area of restoration at the notch in the handle. (This is well done and not very noticeable.)
