Tiffany & Co Sterling Silver Soup Tureen, 1870-75

This large sterling silver tureen is of oval shape on a pedestal foot.  Bold, cast handles on the sides terminate in classical anthemion decoration. Bands of intersecting circles with foliate designs adorn the edges of the body and foot.  One side is beautifully engraved 'TD' and the other with the family name 'Davies'.  The domed cover is surmounted with a stunning cast artichoke.      

This stunning tureen is marked underneath 'TIFFANY & CO/ QUALITY 925-1000/ 1588-1355/ UNION SQUARE' and twice with the Moore 'm' mark.  It measures 17 inches across the handles by 9 inches deep by 12.5 inches high, weighs 85.60 troy ounces and is in excellent antique condition.
