Rare American Coin Silver Luncheon or Dessert Knives in a ‘Vintage’ Pattern - set of 12, Albert Coles, New York City, c. 1850
American Coin Silver Luncheon or Dessert Knives in a ‘Vintage’ Pattern - set of 12, c. 1850

Any knife from this period is uncommon, a set of twelve like this quite rare. These wonderful knives feature handles with decoration of grape bunches, leaves and vines growing naturalistically on a trellised background.  Each side has a foliate c-scroll cartouche, one side is monogrammed ‘MEJ’ in f script style.  Each blade is covered on one side with bright cut engraving of scrolling foliage and a flower.

These lovely knives are stamped on the blade with undocumented pseudo-hallmarks used by Albert Coles of New York City (or a retailer he sold to).  We’ve had this pattern of knife once before and they had documented Albert Coles marks on it.  They measures 8.125 inches long and are in very good/excellent condition; one blade has a slight bend at the tip.
